Authority in Your City

“And he said to him, “Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.” Luke 19:17

The Parable that starts in verse 12 of Luke 19 is a business parable. It teaches both the ROI principle and the reason that God wants you to succeed financially. Here Jesus is talking about a businessman who was going on a trip and leaving his finances in the hands of his servants. He gave them each the same amount of money and he honored the ones who brought the greatest return on investment. 

One of the servants had increased his investment by 10 times; and he was rewarded with authority over ten cities. Also the one who showed a 5 times increase was rewarded with authority over five cities. The one who failed to invest and therefore had no return, was chastised greatly.

A parable is a story with a message. Jesus is telling the story and wants us to understand the message. He told them to “Do business til I come.” You too have received this mandate from the Lord; Do business. The question is: Why? It is obvious that the Lord wants you show a profit; but it is also obvious that He has a greater call. He wants you to use your business as a tool to gain authority in your city. Your authority will come, not only from your financial success; but from the purity of your walk with the Lord.
