”He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, Bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:6
Depression is a powerful tool of the enemy that has caused many gifted and anointed leaders to fail to reach their full potential. The sources or cause for depression are varied; and the season is often long and burdensome.
The interesting aspect that I want to focus on today is how often the depression appears to an outsider as totally unnecessary. The depressed leader appears to be on top of the world, and yet is fighting a battle on the inside. I know of church leaders, business leaders and political leaders who have battled depression. Those who look in are shocked as they cannot see how such a seemingly successful, powerful and charismatic leader can be plagued by depression.
You may be one of those leaders; or you know one for sure. Without downplaying your situation, or trying to solve your problem with a simple platitude, let me show you a biblical truth that can serve as motivation for your victory.
In Psalm 126 we see the story of another captivity for God’s people. There were many such occasions; brought on by disobedience and fulfilled by God’s promise. His promise of both the consequence of disobedience and His promise of release. So in the middle of the pain; they remembered His promise. In the middle of the current situation they recalled the past deliverance…and they rejoiced.
God has done great things! God has answered our prayers! God has made us glad! And how did we find this victory?
“Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.”
Allow the promises of God to be your motivation. There may be struggles today, even battles that you appear to be losing, but God has brought you through before and He will do it again.
“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad.” Psalm 126:3
