“The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them.” Psalm 89:11
I know that we often talk about “my business”, “my house”, “my car” etc. We all use those terms, even when the bank still owns it. But the reality is that we are stewards of God’s good earth, His world and whatever He might have given us the responsibility to watch over for Him. We are stewards: and in stewards faithfulness is required.
So think about it this way: the business you call your own…it is really His. And just when you think you earned it all, and that it was by the sweat of your own labors that you have what you have; you must be reminded that it is His.
He gave it, and He can take it away. What does He want from you? Faithfulness in your work ethic, faithfulness in your prayer life; faithfulness in the stewarding of the riches that He might give into your hands.
A friend of mine recently became the CEO of a large multi-national. He was brought in because of some serious reversals in the financials. He needed to raise some money quickly to keep them afloat until the ship was turned around. He was excited as two investors came with a promise of a large influx of cash. The problem came when the two investors started talking with each other. They decided they could run the enterprise better than my friend. So the investment came with a price: we take over.
My friend related it to me this way: “The hand of God has been on this process from the beginning; this is His enterprise. It is far too holy for me to dare touch or change what He has done. If He wants it to survive; that is up to Him. I had to turn down the cash.”
Why? Because, like you, he is a steward. God will bring the right resources when we provide the right stewardship.
PS: Just spoke to my friend: God is providing!
